Royal Pavilion & Gardens Brighton

The Royal Pavilion is one of Britain’s most eccentric and extravagant palaces previously occupied by three monarchs, George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria. Built as George IV’s pleasure palace, it has been restored to its original 1823 splendor with spectacular Indian architecture contrasted with interiors inspired by China.

Dating back to the 1700s, The Royal Pavilion was initially built as a seaside pleasure place for King George IV. Since then, it has served as a civic building, First World War hospital and now become a true icon of Brighton. Effortlessly fusing Regency grandeur with the exotic styles of India and China, visitors can explore The Pavilion’s vast array of furniture and works of art which include original pieces lent by HM the Queen.

The Garden is a key part of the Royal Pavilion Estate. It’s also a wildlife haven and a much-loved meeting place in the heart of Brighton. Architect John Nash began his transformation of the Royal Pavilion in 1815, and its glorious garden was designed as a pleasure ground fit for a king. The Royal Pavilion’s head gardener maintains the grounds with the help of a group of dedicated volunteers, who are always happy to share their knowledge. Once a private, enclosed space, today the garden is open and accessible for everyone to enjoy.

With numerous events, exhibitions and different tours available throughout the year, along with a cafe and gift shop, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
