Apiary
Apiary is a new entry into Brighton’s cool independent venue catalogue, brought about by the owners’ beekeeping hobby that quickly developed into a greater passion. From wine, mead, honey-infused food and inspired cocktails, this unique all-day bar and restaurant celebrates our vital little pollinating companion, the honey-bee.

50 Norfolk Square, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 2PA
Despite only recently opening in 2024, Apiary has already made a name for itself on Brighton’s bar scene, coming fourth for Best Cocktail in the 2025 BRAVO awards (Brighton Restaurant Awards Vote Online - yes, that’s really what it stands for). You can find them opposite Norfolk Square, a short stroll from central Brighton, just on the border into Hove.
Run by husband and wife team, Alistair and Noemi Bell, Apiary was inspired by a passion for beekeeping that blossomed during lockdown, as well as an enduring interest in opening their own independent café/bar. Nowadays, the pair have seven hives, and the honey they produce is used directly across Apiary’s menu, as well as sold directly on-site, among a variety of other bee-themed products, from 100% beeswax candles to barrel-aged mead. Sustainability is at the forefront of Apiary’s ethos - their drinks selection is organic, bio-dynamic (or in conversion), carbon neutral or negative, or b-corp. Food-wise, their menu uses local products and changes seasonally.
It’s a pleasure to have sustainable venues such as Apiary in our city, especially one that champions a species so essential to our ecosystem that is sadly in decline.
It’s not just a noble pursuit, the cocktails are certainly worth celebrating, with exciting entries such as the Dark and Swarmy (featuring Sussex honey rum and hot honey) and the Apis-co Sour (beeswax pisco!), with a stellar mocktail selection to match.
