The Walrus - Brighton

A cozy room features two patterned armchairs in front of a dark stone fireplace with an ornate gold mirror above it. Wallpaper with floral designs decorates the upper walls, while framed pictures and a tall potted plant add to the elegant, vintage ambiance.

Don’t be fooled by the recent refurb that makes it seem like a Michelin-recommended restaurant; The Walrus is, under the face of it, a classic boozer, with live shows, screens showing the footy, and a drinks selection large enough to choak a sailor.

No doubt, this is the spot you take to impress your non-Brighton friends, family members, and well-wishers. A pub menu that loves to show off, their starter choices include Brighton Gin cured salmon, chipotle pork tacos, and a chorizo scotch egg, with mains including pan roasted bream, mushroom bourguignon, coq au vin, and a range of reinterpretations of pub classics.

Their Thursdays have the best deals, with a main and a glass of wine for £15 per person in the dining room, and 2 for £12 cocktails in the Carpenter’s Lounge, one of the best deals for cocktails you can find outside of a Wetherspoons or a Tesco.

However, their biggest pull is their regular event listings. Including but not limited to bottomless drag brunches, Saturday Cabaret nights, themed quizzes, small-scale productions, and sports watching parties, The Walrus caters to crowds of all varieties and orientations. And, if you’re a Sunday worker, you can catch a roast on their Monday Roast nights. First I’ve heard of such a thing!
