Brighton Rocks Film Festival
Enjoy over 200 films at Brighton's most diverse, original & boundary-pushing film festival for independent cinema.
The 9th edition of Brighton Rocks International Film Festival will take place 15 - 21 June 2026. Screenings will be held at Dukes at Komedia cinema, our festival hub Daltons as well as The Actors. No red carpet, no multiplex. You watch a debut feature in a cinema above a comedy club, then argue about it in a pub that does Caribbean food. All sessions will be followed by filmmaker Q&As and everyone is invited to take advantage of the exclusive networking hub which will run throughout the festival.
Around 50 of this year’s films were made in Brighton and Sussex, including Luna, a drama set during the last day on Earth in Brighton. The programme leans into LGBTQIA+ work, student films, documentaries and experimental cinema, and there’s a new strand this year called 45 Revs Per Minute, dedicated to films by women aged 45 and over.
The guests of honour are screenwriter Sir David Hare, who lives in Sussex, and Toyah Willcox. Her casting feels right for a Brighton festival. She was in Quadrophenia, which put this city’s seafront on film more memorably than anything before or since.
