Sankta Lucia in Brighton
The LondonSwedes Choir and the Swedish Church in London present a candlelit evening of beautiful music.
This special Sankta Lucia service is a Swedish celebration of the bravery and martyrdom of a young Sicilian girl, Lucia of Syracuse, who, according to legend, brought food to Christians hiding in Roman catacombs, lighting her way with a candlelit wreath on her head.
This cherished Swedish tradition is celebrated annually. Lucia Day is characterised by festive treats - gingerbread biscuits and Lussekatt (an S-shaped saffron bun) and mulled wine - and choral singing by a procession of adorable handmaidens, star boys and gingerbread men.
Experience your own little slice of charming Swedish tradition this winter in Brighton, with a candlelit choral performance, bringing warmth as the cold closes in.
