24 hours in Easton, Bristol

9 August 2017 |

Easton is one of Bristol’s most vibrant districts. Home to a wealth of independent shops, world cuisine and a burgeoning music scene, this cultural hotpot is the stomping group for bohemians and immigrant communities alike.

Matter Wholefoods

The folks down at Matter Wholefoods are – quite frankly – lovely.  Their mission statement is simple, to make organic whole food accessible to everyone, through supporting local produce and keeping prices affordable.  Pick up some pieces of organic fruit on your way through St Marks road.  You’ll notice the freshness.

Maitreya Social

Maitreya Social is a local gem.  It was also one of the first restaurants to be dedicated purely to plant-based eating.  Art by local artists grace the walls, while locally sourced food means guaranteed freshness.

Located on the ever-vibrant St Mark’s Road, chef Barney McGrath serves food around the clock.  Favourites include ‘sweet potato pancakes with ginger braised leeks and halloumi’ and ‘Chocolate chip cookie pie, peanut butter ice cream, salt caramel’.

The Plough Inn

The Plough Inn is arguably Bristol’s best-kept secret.  A roomy pub located in the centre of Easton, this community boozer is well known amongst locals for its great sound system, as well as its weekend line-ups, consisting of reggae, funk, soul and hip-hop and more.

The Black Swan

The Black Swan is not for the faint hearted.  A dance music venue, specialising in Drum and Bass, Breakcore, Jungle and more, events go on till the early hours of the morning.  While décor is minimal, the magic of the venue is kept very much alive by the large fire that burns throughout the night in the courtyard.
