A Guide to Yorkshire Pudding Day

3 February 2018 | Jasmine Lee Kennedy

The first Sunday of February every year is National Yorkshire Pudding Day, a day wholly devoted to delving in to their crispy, fluffy goodness. This Sunday, why don’t you change it up a little and try a modern twist on the traditional yorkie? In the UK, there are plenty of crazy culinary scientists making bizarre creations for you to feast on, and now’s the time to give them a go! Here is a guide to really making the most of Yorkshire pudding day this year.

Devour a Yorkshire Pudding Burrito

If you’ve ever been torn between treating yourself to a roast dinner and tucking in to a burrito, which is quite a bizarre scenario but has probably happened to the best of us, your problem is now solved. Long Can Hall in Halifax is home to a devious creation that blurs the line between burrito and roast – the holy ‘British Burrito’. Let’s set the picture for you: a huge, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside yorkie stuffed with a variety of meats and treats and rolled up for your eating pleasure. You can choose slow roast beef, chicken and stuffing, roasted pepper and halloumi, or the mysterious ‘Guinea pig’ which is not, as it sounds, made of Guinea pig, but a changing, daily special. If you can’t make it to Halifax, there are also plenty of places across the UK that provide a similar Yorkshire pudding wrap, such as the Yorkshire Wrap Company in Leeds.
Long Can Hall is located at 12 Ovenden Wood Rd, Halifax, HX2 0TQ. Yorkshire Wrap Company can be found at Cafe B, Kirkgate Market Food Hall, 34 George St, Leeds, LS2 7HY.
Demolish the Biggest Yorkshire Pudding You Can Find

This is one for the bucket list – find the biggest Yorkshire pudding you can set your eyes and devour it. The York Roast Co. has what dreams are made of: a massive Yorkshire pud bowl filled with either pork, turkey, beef, ham or a vegetarian option, as well as roast potatoes, stuffing, seasonal vegetables, gravy and a sauce of your choice. There are also plenty of extras to add on to this already tempting feat, such as pork crackling and mini Yorkshire puddings. These guys are proud propagators of the Yorkshire pud message – deliciousness – and also offer Yorkshire pudding wraps. Their branch in London is open 24 hours, so if you find yourself in the capital you’ll never be lost for a Yorkshire pudding treat.
The York Roast Co. has locations in York, Chester, Shrewsbury, Salisbury and in Kingston, London. For addresses and more information click here.
Tuck in to a Yorkshire Pudding Platter

London is home to some weird and wacky restaurants, but Reform and Social Grill have made it so that, “Now every day can be British Yorkshire Pudding Day.” (The Handbook). They have put the spotlight on the magnificent Yorkshire pud, and brought a menu of both savoury and sweet filled delights to Soho. These come in threes with a savoury platter including: yorkies filled with salt beef, horseradish and watercress, hot smoked salmon, cream cheese and chives, and a Tunsworth cheese and truffle one too. The sweet-tooth trio consists of a chocolate and caramel Yorkshire pud, a sugared yorkie filled with clotted cream and jam and a banana and custard one as well. Exquisite! There’s no problem if you’re gluten-free either, just make sure to tell them 24 hours in advance.
Reform Social and Grill can be found at Mandeville Pl, Marylebone, London, W1U 2BE.
Feast on a Yorkshire Pudding Burger

Admitted, Burgers are pretty good already, but what if there was no bun and just Yorkshire puddings instead? Over Christmas, there was an influx of pictures on our Instagram and twitter feeds of Christmas Yorkshire pudding burgers, most of which were roast dinners held between two yorkies, burger style. However, now the festive period is over, it’s not as easy to find a Yorkshire pudding burger. However, The Potting Shed in Beverley permanently offer the aptly titled ‘Yorkshire’ which includes a juicy beef patty, melted Yorkshire Blue and bacon, held together by a couple of puds. What a masterpiece.
The Potting Shed can be found at Flemingate, Beverley, HU17 0NU.
Make yourself a Yorkshire Pudding Pizza

Once upon a time, a whacky diner in Yorkshire decided to defy nature and serve the monster that is a Yorkshire pudding pizza. This was actually only just last year, but as it was a limited time special they no longer offer it. However, the evil genius’ behind the Frankenstein creation, Rebels’ Smokehouse, have published their recipe so that anyone can make their own insane 1,500 calorie Yorkie. The Chicago Pot Pie pizza was famously eaten by Johnny Vegas on Channel 4 Sunday Brunch, and is made of Yorkshire pudding, sausage meat, mushrooms, homemade pizza sauce and lots of gouda and seasoning. For those interested here is the recipe.
