3 December 2018 |

If you’re feeling a little lacklustre, you’re probably missing something – it could be vitamin D, or it could be one of our top picks, which are bursting at the seams with fun, food and festivity this week.

The Scarlet Pimpernel, Theatre Royal Bath
If you’re looking for a slightly more revolutionary riff on the usual panto offerings, The Scarlet Pimpernel could be the dazzling spectacle you’ve been looking for.

Set in Paris in 1792, the French Revolution is in full swing and the famed Scarlet Pimpernel is helping French poodles – and their owners – escape to England! Expect Horrible Histories-meets-Batman in this hilarious romp, packed with elaborate hoaxes, buffoonery, and a good dollop of derring-do!

Padstow Christmas Food Festival

Set around Padstow harbour, the two cookery demonstration theatres will be packed with some of the country's finest chefs, while the Sharp's Brewery Demonstration Theatre will host demonstrations from a number of award-winning chefs. Oh – and to top it all off there's a spectacular firework display over the harbour.

From this week, art-lovers can check out a new exhibition by Anna Liber Lewis at The Lightbox gallery, which will be on display until 6th January 2019. It’s part of a series of solo shows from the artists represented in ‘Young Contemporary Talent’, a fast-growing element of The Ingram Collection.

The Ingram Collection’s annual Purchase Prize was established in 2016, and aims to celebrate and support the work of young artists at the outset of their careers, and this exhibition will showcase the work of one of last year’s winners, Anna Liber Lewis.

Santa Dash at Battersea Park, Brighton and various nationwide
Sing along now! Dashing through the – well, city centre actually. Santa Dashes are ready and set to take place up and down the country this week. Do it for charity, fresh air, fitness (before binge season hits) or just for fun.

We like the look of this one in Battersea, London, and this one in Brighton, which includes a stretch along the seafront. That’ll earn you your pudding.

The Cat in The Hat, Leicester Curve and UK tour
This brand new co-production of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat by Leicester Curve and Rose Theatre Kingston will premiere on Saturday before embarking on a UK tour in the new year.

The family-friendly production was created in association with the National Centre for Circus Arts and will feature Nana Amoo-Gottfried as the show’s chaotic Cat, while opera singer Charley Magalit will play the role of the fearful Fish.

Expect feline frivolity aplenty, with acrobatic accomplices Thing 1 and Thing 2, riotous rhymes, infectious humour and spectacular circus in this re-imagining of Dr. Seuss’s much-loved book.
