Top 5 Bars in Nottingham

Top 5 Bars in Nottingham

6 October 2017 | Maddie Hammond

Nottingham may be small in size, but what it offers when it comes to drinking establishments is anything but. From intimate cocktail bars to German ping pong bars, converted churches to misleading boiler repair shops, this Midlands’ city offers an eclectic choice of spots to have a drink, dance and even grab a crepe. So go and explore the very best, with our pick of the top 5 for you to try.

1. Boilermaker

As the name suggests, the outside of the Boilermaker is decked out exactly like a…well, a boiler repairs shop. In fact, pass the venue on a Saturday night and you will see a queue stretching down Carlton Street, a perplexing sight given its distinctly unglamorous exterior. Once you get in however, expect to find the popular cocktail bar packed with visitors and locals alike. The boiler theme is taken very seriously, running all the way through to bar’s menu, which is presented as a repairs manual and packed with decadent and delicious boozy delights served in a variety of eccentric manners.

Boilermaker is located at 36 Carlton St, Nottingham NG1 1NN.

2. Das Kino

Who’d have thought that a German-cinema–themed bar, with ping pong tables and a photo booth, was the perfect recipe for a post-work tipple? Offering a generous selection of cocktails and pizzas, the relaxed venue has become the perfect go to for an entertaining gathering that stretches into the early hours. Das Kino also host live music events throughout the year should ping pong not be your cuppa.

Das Kino is at 22 Fletcher Gate, Nottingham NG1 2FZ.

3. Pitcher and Piano

Yes, it’s a chain, but trust us on this one - Nottingham’s instalment of Pitcher and Piano is probably quite different from the ones you’ve experienced so far. Set in an old converted church, this bar is the perfect place to impress. Upon entering, the first thing you see is a magnificent bar selling a decent range of wines, beers and cocktails. Enjoy some fizz by a font or Aperol by an altar. Amen!

You can find Pitcher and Piano at The Unitarian Church, High Pavement, Nottingham, NG1 1HN.

4. Tilt

Since it opened its doors several years back, Tilt has become a beloved staple of Nottingham nightlife. Despite a recent revamp, which has given the tiny bar a much sleeker look, the strong selection of mouth-watering classic cocktails and laidback atmosphere thankfully remain intact. Be sure to get there early – with a capacity of 100 it fills up quickly!

Tilt is located at 9 Pelham St, Nottingham NG1 2EH.

5. Pepper Rocks

An impossibly charming bar, Pepper Rocks’ warm and sociable atmosphere instantly puts you at ease. Described as having a retro industrial style, complete with low-slung sofas and other distinctive comfortable seating, the venue is the perfect alternative to the bustling bars of the city centre. As well as cocktails and standard bar snacks, Pepper Rocks is also a crêperie and hosts regular live music events. Yup, this place really has it all.

Pepper Rocks is located at 2 Pepper St, Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham NG1 2GH.
