The Roasts We Love Most, 2018

29 December 2018 |

It’s cold – and it’s definitely time to get toasty with a roast… Here are a few cherry-picked favourites from our Top Roast round-ups

The Hand and Heart, Nottingham
Beneath Nottingham city centre lies a network of 450 caves, one of which is now occupied by The Hand and Heart. Ornately finished in dark wood and twinkling lights, this celebrated city haunt offers a truly atmospheric setting for you to tuck into your meat and two veg (or veg, glorious veg, if you’re that way inclined!) A traditional roast with all the trimmings comes in at between £12 - 15, and their roasties are out of this world. Oh, and did we mention you get to eat it in a cave…?!

Earth and Stars, Brighton
Possibly the most eco-friendly gastropub around, Earth and Stars is powered by a solar panel on the roof and serves a variety of organic drinks alongside plenty of hearty vegan and gluten-free options. The rustic decor and laid back atmosphere make this a great spot for Sunday lunch, and in additional to the traditional meat roasts, the nut roast is out of this world. Don’t forget to save some space for pudding!

Evelyn’s, Manchester
This Halal, health-conscious establishment has made a name for itself, not just for its delicious menu but also its beautiful interior design, making it a must for Mancunians.
Sunday dishes include the likes of mustard-rubbed beef, lamb shoulder with rosemary and mint, free range chicken with harissa and buttermilk, and market fish with coriander and lemon. Prices range from £11.50 - 16 and a vegan option is available.

Devonshire Cat, Sheffield
The recently revamped Devonshire Cat is renowned for its passion for great food and impressive selection of beer. Using locally sourced produce to create fresh, homemade dishes, including a hearty Sunday roast, this laid-back pub has quickly become a local favourite. Tuck into humongous Yorkshire puddings and enjoy one of the fantastic draught or bottled beers – that's any Sunday sorted.

The Glassboat, Bristol
Moored in an idyllic spot of Bristol’s Harbour, the Glassboat (a real boat!) is a great choice if you want to escape the chaos of the city without having to stray too far. They do a top roast on Sundays, as well as their regular fare of minimum-35-day-aged steaks, Rock oysters, pork chops or spring vegetable risottos. It’s probably not affordable for a weekly visit, but when you need that special treat, it's the perfect way to wash away the cares of the week.
