Top 5 Spooky Events in Bristol

17 October 2018 | Emily May

Halloween is just around the creepy corner, so we’ve rounded up some ghoulish events in Bristol that will lift your spirits!

Murder Mystery Night, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery
Head to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery for a spook-tacular Halloween-themed murder mystery night! Hosted in the Winterstoke and Wills Halls, you can enjoy an autumnal cocktail on arrival, before you meet the murder mystery guest who you can quiz in order to figure out “whodunnit?” When you’ve established the merry murderer, and sunk your teeth into your three course meal (bone appétit!), you can boo!-gie the night away to the DJ and disco that will keep your spine shivering until 1:00am. Let’s hope that, unlike a skeleton, you’ll have some-body to dance with!

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery’s Murder Mystery Halloween special will take place on 26 October and costs £65 per person. Booking is required.

Museums at Night Circus Spectacular, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery
Halloween is the perfect time for facing your phobias, so this year, why not fight your fear of creepy clowns at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery’s Museums at Night: Circus Spectacular! Developed in partnership with Circomedia, the Bristol based centre for contemporary circus, the museum will be haunted by a host of acrobats and circus performers, who will give you a chance to try activities such as tightrope walking and juggling. Once you’ve mastered the tricks, why not treat yourself to dressing up with your family and friends in the themed photo booth. When you’ve finished clowning around, head up to Clowns: The Eggs-hibition, for a (slightly!) more serious exploration of the circus through the years, which also features hundreds of clown eggs that may chill a coulrophobic’s spine! Because if there’s anything scarier than a clown, it’s a clown army made of eggs.

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery’s Museums at Night: Circus Spectacular takes place on 25 October from 7:30pm – 9:30pm. Admission is free of charge.

The Spooky Ship, SS Great Britain
If you, like the Vile Victorians, have a penchant for ghost stories, then head aboard the SS Great Britain for their after-dark Spooky Ship event and tour! As you explore the eerie 175-year old vessel with the help of your ghoulish guide, be prepared for a fright-fest filled with professional actors – ahem - terribly scary ghosts and poltergeists, who will be lurking around the corridors and telling you terrible tales of the ship’s past.

Follow your guide as you meander round the city’s darkest streets, taking in Bristol’s haunted cinema, a 16th Century haunted house, as well as many well-known TV and film locations.

Let deadly drum and bass fill your ears, with a line-up that includes DJ Marky & GQ, Ivy lab, Ulterior Motive, alongside a special guest and more. There’s even a full-venue light show to look forward to.
