Current and upcoming exhibitions at Camden Art Centre.
Pearl Lines is the first institutional exhibition in the UK by American artist Walter Price and will be on until August 29th. It follows his residency at Camden Art Centre in early 2020 when, in response to his time in London and the conditions of the studio space, he experimented with scale, narrative and materials to create new paintings, works on paper and sculptures. In the exhibition Price presents elements of this body of work, alongside a group of new paintings and drawings made during lockdown in New York.
Computer is Olga Balema's first solo exhibition in the UK which will be on until August 29th. It is centred around a single flat sculpture, created in her studio and the surrounding streets in New York. As Balema describes, what is “…presented here is an attempt to make a weird line between objects, an associative alliance between my personal belongings and works I have made. A realisation about the different grains of the street.’ Visitors to the gallery are invited to move on top of the work, incorporating their own imprints with the existing composition of marks.”
Tensed Muscles by Steffi Klenz will be on until July 11th. “During 2019 Klenz spent time at the Maiden Lane Estate in Camden, talking with residents and immersing herself in the architecture of the space. She worked with rappers Boss B & Brownsilla at the Camden Local Studies & Archives Centre exploring the history of the estate. Together, they considered the relationship between the architectural promise of modernist living - of equality and opportunity - and the reality of living in Maiden Lane in the 40 years since the estate’s inception.”
