Cramer St Gallery presents Alan Chapman: Unfiltered, a solo exhibition of black-and-white photography by celebrated British photographer Alan Chapman, running from 4th to 8th March, 2026. Curated by Lee Sharrock, the exhibition brings together a rare and compelling selection of images captured across Chapman’s remarkable three-decade career photographing the world’s most famous cultural figures.
Alan Chapman: Unfiltered features striking black-and-white portraits of some of the most influential figures in music, film, fashion, and art. Chapman’s lens has captured Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, Kate Moss, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Jack Nicholson, Sophia Loren, Courtney Love, Liam Gallagher, Boy George, and Lady Gaga, among many others. Photographed in a pre-Instagram era, before PR teams, curated feeds and digital filters, these images reveal celebrities as instinctive, spontaneous human beings. Moments of charisma, vulnerability, defiance, and joy unfold naturally, creating an intimacy that feels increasingly radical today. With many of the subjects now gone, the photographs also carry a profound sense of cultural memory and loss.
Curator Lee Sharrock says: "Alan Chapman has a rare ability to distil rock ’n’ roll spirit and personality into a single frame through his lens. His iconic images of celebrities from the worlds of music, film and fashion offer a powerful counterpoint to today’s hyper-edited, algorithm-driven imagery. Celebrity Unfiltered reminds viewers of a time when fame was raw, fleeting, and thrillingly real.”
FRAME : During the run of the exhibition Alan Chapman will take part in a meet-and-greet and a book signing of FRAME at a special event on Sunday the 8th of March, from 12 to 4 pm. FRAME is the culmination of 30 years photographing the rich and famous at legendary late-night venues in London and Los Angeles. The book features many of Chapman’s favourite images and is available during the exhibition, priced at £75.
The exhibition has been made possible through the support of Cramer St Gallery Founding Director Christina Zahra, produced by CMJZ Arts and with artistic direction by Mariya Boyko.
