Being Human - at Wellcome Collection

1 January 2025 to 1 January 2026 Wellcome Collection

The permanent exhibition that explores health, identity, and the human condition, with over 50 artworks and objects that interrogates our health anxieties in a changing world.

This permanent gallery delves into the essence of humanity in our modern era, examining trust, identity, and health amid a world in flux. Being Human captures the collective hopes and anxieties surrounding medical advancements, shifting social dynamics, and our evolving relationship with both each other and the planet.

Through 50 thought-provoking artworks and objects, the space invites visitors to engage with profound themes. A refugee astronaut drifts through the unknown, carrying the weight of displacement. A perfumed bronze sculpture evokes the intimate scent of breast milk, blurring the lines between art and sensory memory. Nearby, an epidemic jukebox plays melodies that trace the rhythms of contagion and resilience.

The gallery unfolds across interconnected explorations: genetics unravelling our coded blueprints, minds and bodies navigating vulnerability and strength, infection revealing our fragile interconnectedness, and environmental breakdown mirroring the urgency of planetary care. Each piece weaves a narrative about what binds us, challenges us, and ultimately defines what it means to be human today.

A space for reflection, discovery, and shared understanding, where art and science converge to ask the most fundamental questions of our time.
