berlioz presents deep in it - Day Festival

Berlioz's have somehow landed Moodymann for their first day out, alongside beloved and underrated gems like Jitwam and Laurence Guy, for a field day that no one will forget.

What a line-up. berlioz just a few years ago were farming engagement from Instagram reels. Now, they're spearheading a festival with the actual Moodymann on the line-up. They must be backed by some CEO or something; I have never seen such an astronomical rise for a dance music artist (other than Fred Again, who actually is backed by generational wealth).

It's dizzying. In such a brief line-up, they hit every note perfectly, plucking the underrated and the unsung from across the spectrum, house or hybrid. Jitwam, not a dance artist, but a blend of styles from hip-hop, indie rock, and house, is one I'm most excited for, a rising talent that I'm thankful berlioz has noticed.

System Olympia has also been taking the scene by storm, a producer-singer-DJ with bratty, confident lyrics over nostalgic beats, still yet to receive mainstream attention or a Wikipedia page, but very well-known by Londoners.

Logic1000, one of this decades biggest underground stars, brings a 2010s-tinged, melodic, melancholic tech-house to the line-up, a style which I'm sure is very popular in her native Australia (they really are a decade behind in everything aren't they? Just kidding, I love the Aussies, I love Clapham!).

Laurence Guy is an unreal pull. His 2017 album Saw You For The First Time was the introduction of many into the world of miminal house. His track with Steve Spacek, ‘Drum is a Woman’, still stands out as one of the genres greatest. No doubt he inspired berlioz in more ways than one, who seem like a spiritual continuation of the melodic, jazzy, house works of Guy.

And of course, Moodymann, who's not exactly the Godfather of House (as he is from Detroit), but key in the genre's growth in popularity outside of Chicago, blending its soul and syncopation with the industrial rigidity of Detroit's techno sound. His work was lightyears ahead, with many tracks coming out now sounding like they were released by Moodymann 20 years ago. He's the real reason why the rest of the line-up even make music, probably. His set will be the biggest, bigger than berlioz's, surely, if there is any sanity left in this sick, sad world.

There are a few more delights in the line-up that you will love if you're into the rest of these. It's going to be a tricky one competing with Jazz Cafe festival, held on the same day, but I am certain they will hold strong.
