Carbon, Carbon Everywhere - at Hypha Studios
Twelve artists trace carbon’s journey from rock to life, revealing the elemental thread connecting all matter across time and form.

Hypha Studio's newest exhibition, Carbon, Carbon Everywhere, convenes twelve international artists to interrogate the ontological fluidity of carbon, a primordial element fundamental to the constitution of organic and inorganic matter. The show’s title is appropriated from Primo Levi’s seminal essay, in which he traces the metaphysical journey of a single carbon atom, from geological stasis to animate life, thereby illustrating the element’s inherent capacity to challenge the categorical boundaries between life and non-life.
Carbon is presented not as a static entity but as a perpetually transmuting agent of connection, threading through bodies, environments, and temporal scales. It operates as a medium of fossilization and mutation, of preservation and pollution, linking deep geological time to contemporary atmospheric volatility.
Through a multidisciplinary assemblage of sculpture, painting, ceramics, video, and installation, the exhibition renders visible the latent processes of material exchange. The works collectively examine how carbon shifts in meaning as it moves across systems, provoking critical reflection on dialectics of timelessness and change, preservation and destruction, and order and chance. The central thesis posits a palpable, material lucidity: that through carbon, everything is connected to everything else.
