Disco-house-rare groove extraordinaire Cody Currie comes to Shoreditch's XOYO for a big big night of carefree, funky jams.
In the spirit of artists like Kaidi Tatham and 30/70, Currie’s genre-defying, infinitely-groovable style holds at its core the sensibilities of house, while spicing up the arrangements around the edges; unquantized drums, jazz solos, advanced syncopation, all combine into a dizzying frenzy of drums and bass, making it impossible to stay still.
His album Lucas made waves with its simple mix of charming melodies and addictive house drums, becoming one of our favourite dance records of recent years for its simultaneous radio-friendliness and swaggering edge that would land at any disco rave.
This October he's to be joined by unannounced special guests at Shoreditch's iconic XOYO, an absolute nightmare during a run-of-the-mill club night but the place to be for special events such as these. Great basement room, quality sound and acoustics, if only it wasn't so near the dreaded Old Street roundabout.
