Ibibio Sound Machine - at 100 Club
Ibibio Sound Machine bring their fusion of West African funk and electronic beats to the respected, historic 100 Club for a kind of performance that the venue rarely sees.
London's electrifying Ibibio Sound Machine brings its genre-fusing alchemy to the legendary 100 Club. Led by the dynamic Nigerian vocalist Eno Williams, the collective masterfully blends West African funk, pulsing disco, and electronic post-punk into a singular, unstoppable force. Renowned for their vibrant stage presence and rhythmic intensity, their live show is a guaranteed explosion of joy and reckless abandon on the dancefloor.
In 2010, a unique musical fusion began in London when producers Max Grunhard, Leon Brichard, and Benji Bouton conceived a project to bridge the gap between the vibrant sounds of 1980s Afrobeat and the kinetic energy of 1990s drum and bass. To realize their vision, they enlisted the powerful vocals of Nigerian singer Eno Williams.
The initial sessions proved so successful that the project quickly evolved beyond the studio, expanding into a full live ensemble. This collaborative spirit culminated in 2013 with the official formation of Ibibio Sound Machine.
The band's signature sound is a dynamic and joyous collision of continents and eras. It draws its soul from the golden age of West African funk and disco, which is then electrified with modern post-punk and electronic textures. Central to their identity is Williams' Ibibio heritage; she often sings in the Ibibio language, weaving traditional Nigerian narratives and themes of empowerment into their dancefloor-ready anthems.
