London City Ballet, the former resident company of Sadler’s Wells, returns after a staggering inaugural year that included a global tour through Asia, America and Europe. This year the programme will feature three new UK premieres, new work from Paris Opera Ballet’s Florent Melac and rising choreographic star Tasha Chu who is embarking on a 2 year partnership with London City Ballet.

The new show will visit Bath (24-26 July) and Birmingham (29-30 July) followed by an expanded international tour across Europe, before a grand return to Sadler’s Wells Theatre on 12 & 13 September. Select venues will feature ballet star Alina Cojocaru as guest artist performer, following her acclaimed performances with the company in 2024. In November, the company will round off the year with visits to Oxford (11 November) and York (14-15 November) before presenting a special programme at the Linbury Theatre (19-22 November) as part of the Royal Ballet and Opera’s 2025/26 season, performing the London premiere of Jerome Robbins’ Quiet City and a new work by Tasha Chu.

This season delivers a brand new repertoire showcasing artists rarely seen in the UK, as the company’s programme grows bigger and bolder for 2025. In keeping with London City Ballet’s ethos of bringing to the stage rarely seen works, George Balanchine’s Haieff Divertimento is presented – an early work by the master choreographer originally dubbed lost for 40 years after its premiere and to this day remaining unseen outside the USA. Alexei Ratmansky, New York City Ballet’s artist in residence, is a leading light on the global dance scene. ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’, to Modest Mussorgsky’s eponymous score is set against a backdrop depicting Wassily Kandinsky’s best known masterpieces. Here the dancers truly bring the art to life. Unseen in the UK since its 2009 premiere, Consolations & Liebestraum by Liam Scarlett is a response to Franz Liszt’s piano score of the same name. Scarlett’s affecting ballet depicts the lifecycle of a relationship, its blossoming and later fracturing love.

Emerging choreographer, Florent Melac, best known as a Premier Danseur at the Paris Opera Ballet, creates a new work for the company in unique, fluid, musical style which combines inventive transitions with intimate partnering.

Join London City Ballet as it builds momentum and continues forging a path to Theatres across the world.
