University of the Arts London's (UAL) Fashion, Textiles and Technology Institute (FTTI), in partnership with the British Council, presents New Landscapes, a new exhibition exploring research and development shaping the future of sustainable and socially engaged fashion, textiles and technologies. Running from 11 September 2025 – 30 January 2026, the exhibition showcases the outcomes of the New Landscapes programme - a multi-year partnership supporting transnational research and development (R&D) partnerships for small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

Hosted at the British Council’s headquarters at East Bank, Stratford, New Landscapes showcases three cohorts of the programme, spanning the UK and nine other countries including Nigeria, Indonesia and India and supporting 42 SMEs to date. The exhibition features a collection of prototypes of sustainable materials, new processes, and innovative garments and products, as well as striking visual documentation, through imagery, infographics and maps showcasing the innovation and impact of each R&D partnership.

As the fashion and textiles industry comes under increasing scrutiny for its environmental impact, each R&D partnership seeks to tackle a different sustainability challenge in the fashion, textiles and related technologies industry.

Highlights include:

Bequin a novel bio-derived sequin with a range of different embroidery applications and featured by international fashion brand GANNI in their A/W2025 show.

Climate Positive Microbial Colours offering pioneering petro-chemical free formulations, novel applications, and scalable approaches to natural textile dyeing and finishing.

Desi-Oon Wool Traceability Framework - mapping India’s indigenous wool and supply chains to open new B2B markets in the automotive and interiors sectors creating a more sustainable end use whilst creating a proof of concept for a digital traceability tool.

The exhibition is listed as part of the official programme for London Design Festival, which runs from 13-21 September 2025.

Free to view, no booking required, registration at front desk required on arrival.
