Super-weird, super-funky 60s psychedelic group Os Mutantes (The Mutants) hailing from sunny Brasil, come to the Jazz Cafe to bring back their highly unique styles to England, the first time in 7 years
One of Brazil’s most influential bands, Os Mutantes, prepares for a special London performance this summer, their first in seven years. Emerging from São Paulo in 1965, the group was founded by teenage brothers Arnaldo and Sérgio Dias Baptista alongside Arnaldo’s then-partner Rita Lee.
Quickly becoming pioneers of Brazil’s psychedelic rock scene, they gained recognition as the backing band for Tropicália, the groundbreaking artistic movement led by Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, who were both exiled by the military dictatorship for their efforts in the genre.
Known for their experimental approach and rebellious spirit, the original lineup dissolved in the mid-1970s amid creative differences, including a now-legendary dispute between the brothers over guitars.
After decades apart, they reunited in 2006, reigniting their passion for live performances. Their 2015 sold-out show at Village Underground proved their enduring appeal, blending nostalgia with renewed energy. This rare intimate concert offers a chance to witness their genre-defying sound, a mix of swirling psychedelia, Brazilian rhythms, and rock innovation at one of London's most premier venues.
