Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style
Celebrate the remarkable style and fashion legacy of Queen Elizabeth II in a new royal exhibition.
Discover the remarkable style of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II, through clothing worn in all ten decades of her life from birth to adulthood, from princess to queen, and from off-duty style to dressing for the global stage for momentous occasions in Britain’s history at The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, 10 April 2026 - 18 October 2026. Featuring over 200 items, with around half on display for the first time - Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of the late Queen’s fashion ever mounted.
What to expect from this exhibition
The exhibition is set to feature several magnificent pieces by the late Queen’s most influential designer, Norman Hartnell, with highlights including both her wedding and coronation dresses, an apple-green gown worn for a state banquet given for President Eisenhower at the British Embassy in Washington, DC in 1957, and the crinoline-skirted blue gown and matching bolero, worn for her sister Princess Margaret’s wedding in 1960.
To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s continued influence on the British fashion industry, three world-renowned British designers – Erdem Moralioglu, Richard Quinn and Christopher Kane will also contribute pieces to the exhibition.
The exhibition also highlights the late Queen’s tailored, off-duty wardrobe, instantly recognisable around the world. See if you can spot some of Queen Elizabeth II’s most famous tweed suits, riding clothes, raincoats and headscarves.
As well as jewellery, hats, shoes and accessories, visitors will also get a chance to admire never-seen-before design sketches and fabric samples offering rare insight into the process of dressing the most famous woman in the world and shed new light on the late Queen’s close involvement in the creation of her wardrobe.
‘In the year that she would have turned 100 years old, this exhibition will be a celebration of Queen Elizabeth's uniquely British style and her enduring fashion legacy.’ Caroline de Guitaut, Exhibition Curator and Surveyor of The King’s Works of Art.
