Culture Calling favourite, French disco and dance extraordinaire - Romare - hoofs it back to London for a month-long residency at Jazz Café, playing every Friday in June.
Transcending dance music, incorporating jazz, pop, blues, and lo-fi, Romare's unique brand of dance music has made international waves. You might even recognise 'All Night' from an advert or two.
On the back of 2024s acclaimed ‘Here Comes the Night’ EP, the French dance extraordinaire continually seeks to push new boundaries, in his recorded music and in his sets, where he sometimes treats fans to a live set. His We Out Here 2023 set was a huge Culture Calling highlight, performing a continuous mix of his classic tunes, but with live instruments, including one excellent sax solo over ‘All Night’.
This June, Jazz Café becomes the canvas for Romare’s genre-defying artistry as he takes over four Friday nights with a dynamic mix of live performances and DJ sets. Each night will feature unique collaborations with eight special guests, promising a month-long exploration of rhythm and narrative through sound.
A true sampling alchemist, Romare constructs his music like audio collages—layering jazz, blues, house, and global grooves with the precision of a visual artist (more than fitting for someone with a background in African American Visual Culture). His sets unfold as immersive stories, blending raw energy with hypnotic textures, always anchored by deep, danceable grooves.
From his early jazz-infused electronica to recent psychedelic disco-house experiments, Romare’s evolution reflects a restless creative spirit. His productions—near-cinematic in scope—bridge organic instrumentation and electronic innovation, a duality he brings to the stage with improvisational flair.
