This March, Phonox welcomes the singular Soichi Terada, a pioneering force in dance music from the Far East. For twenty years, his unique sonic alchemy has blended driving electronica with threads of Eastern mysticism and pop-culture, creating a sound equally at home on a video game soundtrack as it is moving a dancefloor. Experience the cult icon's celebrated live set, a rabble-rousing, technically masterful, and massively fun journey.

His record ‘Sounds From the Far East’ broke ground in dance circles. It was Japanese-style dance music but from a Japanese artist, purposefully using tropes from Japanese music and culture that typically appease and are employed by the Westerner. Terada brought it back to base camp.

The record, a compilation compiled by Hunee, presents a collection of highly sought-after material from the legendary Japanese house producer, alongside Shinichiro Yokota and Manabu Nagayama.

Soichi Terada's artistic path is one of innate curiosity and technical skill. After studying Computer Science and the electric organ, he established his own label, Far East Recording, in 1989 to release his innovative compositions. His signature sound draws direct inspiration from the early-nineties US deep house and hip-hop he experienced firsthand. Embracing technology from the start, Terada was an early adopter of digital sampling and was known for his unconventional DJ sets using DAT players and reel tapes, cementing his status as a forward-thinking pioneer.
