Unassailable 90s hip-hop great brings his stellar selections to Camden, doubling as a little warm-up session for his big day out at Jazz Cafe Festival the next day.
Producer of classic records for Cypress Hill and Mobb Deep, as well as modern hits such as Alfredo with Freddie Gibbs and recently a covert collaborative album with Earl Sweatshirt, The Alchemist has long professed his love for the scene with his humble, no-name collabs and pure altruism for the music he loves.
A production style so iconic you can hear it from a mile off, a flavour which can never be aped, The Alchemist is a guaranteed hit-maker in hip-hop, and a sure-fire way for rappers to get their much-needed promotion. However, he'll only lend his beats to those he deems worthy, rendering his discography to be a long list of greatest hits.
Now, he comes to the Jazz Cafe, for a cheeky DJ set where he'll no doubt pass through his favourite finds from crate-digging and sample-hunting, as well as his own tracks which made him so distinctive. Since he's playing at Jazz Cafe's very own festival the next day, this will be his chance to read the UK crowd wherein he's unused to playing for, so with fair warning this may not be the seamless set you'd come to expect from an artist like The Alchemist.
It will, however, be good, honest fun, and a must-attend for any hip-hop fan who takes their love for the music seriously. Come on down for a much-needed chill one.
