The free museum and library's roster for the remainder of 2024 boasts a great mix of intellectually stimulating events, talks, and exhibits for all audiences, including those with disabilities.

The Wellcome Collection is a renowned education and cultural centre in Euston, London, providing a huge variety of learning experiences for audiences of all ages. Students, SEND students, adults, adults with disabilities, the Wellcome Collection welcomes all through its doors. And the hospitality doesn't stop there; every event is free

Object-handling sessionThursday 3 October 2024 -  17:30 – 19:30

For those interested in the connections between health, history and art, come check out this free, relaxed where you’ll be able to handle some of the items in their collection. Get your rubber gloves on and start investigating.

Black History Month tours 3 October 2024 – 31 October 2024 

Throughout October, which marks Black History Month in the UK, facilitator Isabelle Gapomo comes through with a series of five talks, going from the theory of slave economy to modern intersectionality. 

Discovering our collections workshop Friday 4 October 2024 -  14:00 – 15:00

Join Caroline Butten from their library team in an interactive workshop designed to help you explore our collections and inspire your own research projects. You’ll also learn about practical aspects of working with the collection, including finding and ordering items using our online catalogue. 

Infection studiesThursday 10 October 2024 - 19:00 – 20:30

Join Claudia Hammond and a panel of scientists and experts as they discuss human infection studies. Claudia will present the evening and interview the speakers. Then the audience will have the chance to ask questions afterwards. You can participate or just listen in.

AD tour of The Kola Nut Cannot Be Contained12 October 2024 – 2 February 2025

Running until early next year, this audio-described gallery tour encourages attendees to discover more about the objects through smell and touch. ‘The Kola Nut Cannot Be Contained’ is an evolving display featuring a series of stories by a range of contributors about the entangled global histories, vibrant traditions, and new innovations connected to the kola nut.

Lights up on Hard Graft: Work, Health and Rights17 October 2024 – 15 April 2025

Another event which runs well into next year, here’s an opportunity to catch the quality exhibition with brighter and more even lighting conditions. A digital guide with audio description and BSL videos, visual story, sensory map and large-print guides are available for use in the gallery, and staff are on hand for additional support.

Magical garlicThursday 17 October 2024 - 18:00 – 19:30

Team up with the museum staff in a workshop discovering  how garlic has been used as food, medicine and for protection throughout history. This is a relaxed event, with a chill-out room, low-lighting, and comfortable seating. Of course, those with garlic allergies need not attend. 
 

Care Chains (Love will continue to resonate)Sunday 27 October 2024 -14:00 – 16:00

Join artist Moi Tran and members of the Voice of Domestic Workers for an informal performance that explores caregiving through collective clapping, sound, movement and vibrations. Inspired by the newly commissioned installation ‘Care Chains (Love will continue to resonate)’ in our major exhibition ‘Hard Graft: Work, Health and Rights’, this event highlights the often unseen labour of caregivers and the profound impact of their acts of kindness.

Relaxed opening of Jason and the Adventure of 254 7 November - 10:00 - 12:00

The Wellcome Collection continues to provide accessible and accommodating experiences for guests with differing needs. Here, they provide a friendly, relaxed opening of the Jason and the Adventure of 254 with extra staff available to help you, fewer people in the exhibition, sensory-support equipment (including ear defenders, tinted glasses and visors, stim toys and weighted lap pads), comfortable cushions and mats if you need to sit or lie down in the exhibition, and a chill-out space.  

Celebrating who I amTuesday 19 November 2024 - 10:00 – 15:00

A sensory exploration for SEND students of the methods we use to communicate who we are – our preferences, our feelings and our personality. This is a two-part workshop that gives students the chance to develop their physical, social, cognitive and communication skills. 

For the second part, students will visit our ‘Being Human’ exhibition to see how people communicate through artworks and exhibits. This event is suitable for SEND students aged 14+ following pre-formal, informal and semi-formal curriculum pathways.
