From Soho to Shoreditch, let’s see what’s going on in London’s Asian restaurant scene and which route they have gone for…

To be successful in the food world you need to be one of two things; innovative with your recipes, cooking truly different dishes that surprise and elate diners. The other option is of course to master recipes and dishes that go back centuries, evoking the past in all its wisdom and tradition.

From Soho to Shoreditch, let’s see what’s going on in London’s Asian restaurant scene and which route they have gone for…

1. BAO Noodle Shop on Redchurch Street - link here

One of London’s Bao Noodle Shops. Link here.

Opened on the 8th July, BAO Noodle Shop is the latest destination from London restaurant group BAO. The new eatery is focusing on authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soups (niu rou mian) with star ingredients such as Taiwanese flour noodles, Taipei broth, short ribs, rump cap and aged white soy sauce. Not to mention the bao ning which is a delicious shaved ice fruit dessert…

Open now.

Where? Bao Noodle Shop, 1 Redchurch St, E2 7DJ.

Restaurateur veteran and Jamshedpur-born Atul Kochhar is getting ready to open Masalchi which will complement the chef’s other site Kanishka in Mayfair. Based on Indian street food, the dishes are inspired by Kochhar’s trips to India and will feature Gurda Kapura Masala (a tomato based offal curry) and Purani Dilli Ki Nihari Handi (Old Delhi lamb stew).

Opening later in 2021 alongside the new Boxpark. TBC.

Where? Wembley Park, London.

3. Maru in Mayfair - link here

Maru’s wonderfully elegant interiors. link here

Reinventing the former site of restaurant Taka, sushi expert Taiji Maruyama has been busy behind the scenes creating Maru. With a omakase-style (chef has full freedom) tasting menu built around British produce and Japanese flavours (across 20 courses) this will not be your average sit-down meal! Designed to sit just 10 this is some premium eating - and it will cost you!

Open now.

Where is it? 18 Shepherd Market, Mayfair, London W1J 7QH

4. Humble Chicken in Soho - link here

Yum. Link here.

Humble Chicken is a new Soho yakitori chicken shop. Described by food critic Jay Rayner as a ‘huge amount of fun’, the menu is serious when it comes to big flavour and authentic Japanese cooked over fire techniques. We’re hankering after the omakase chef’s selection and the very special looking ‘Everything Strawberry’ dessert…

Open now.

Where is it? 54 Frith Street, Soho, London, W1D 4SJ.
