  4. Top 5 Ways to Celebrate Pancake Day

Flipping 'eck, Pancake Day's nearly here! Here are our top 5 places to head to.

Yep you batter believe it guys, Pancake Day is just around the corner. With so much Crepe-related fun to be had out and about in London, save your homemade lemon and sugar jobbies for another day. Here’s our top 5 tips on where to go spend your Shrove Tuesday, so you can be a tosser in style!

1. Parliamentary Pancake Race

Apparently pancake day makes serious people do silly things. Welcome to the Parliamentary Pancake Race: a get together of Lords, MPs and the press. The three groups swap reform discussion for relay racing and battle it out to be crowned this year's pancake race champion (last year the journalists scooped the victory - the pressure is on). Head down to theVictoria Tower Gardens, just outside the Houses of Parliament, for 10am on 9th February. It’s totally free but you might like to make a donation while you’re there. All money

raised will go to Rehab, a charity that supports disabled people through training, employment and social care.

Discover the event programme here.

2. My Old Dutch

The Dutch, while perhaps not famous overall for their national cuisine, do know how to make a

flipping good pancake. Check out My Old Dutch for some delicious Netherlands style stacks. You can find them in Holborn, Chelsea and Kensington. Portions are huge and are served with traditional Dutch food, plus just about every other topping you could think of (seriously - curry pancake anyone?) You might want to enjoy your Shrove Tuesday on a Monday - controversial we know - because during their Monday Madness deal most pancakes on the menu are only a fiver.

Peruse their delicious menu here.

3. Senzala Creperie in Brixton Village

Brixton Village has gained a reputation as being a hot spot for good eats in south London and the market's local creperie: Senzala is a real jewel in its crown. The restaurant serves French Crepes with Brazilian influences, including steak and spicy meat fillings.

If you’re based further afield in London, other delicious creperies that deserve a mention are

La Creperie De Hampstead in the north, which is 26 years old and something of an institution in

the area. The Kensington Creperie out west is a wonderful place, just opposite the V&A, serving

traditional French crepes. Our east London pick is Shoreditch’s Shutterbug. In true east London style, it’s a fusion restaurant; a cocktails-cum-creperie with regular live DJ sets to go along with your food.

Check out the amazing variety of Senzala crepes here.

4. The Great Spitalfields Pancake Race

This option is a little more interactive. Get your gym kit on and train up for the annual Great

Spitalfields Pancake Race. They provide the pancakes, you just need a pan and at least four other

mates who you can drag along to make a team. Free pancakes afterwards for everyone who takes

part and the winners will receive a beautifully engraved gift… their very own Spitalfields frying pan!

5. Fatboys Diner

Fun fact: Did you know that the term Mardi Gras is just another way of saying Shrove Tuesday? It literally translates from French to fat Tuesday; the last day of gorging before lent. This makes a Mardi Gras down in New Orleans literally the jazziest pancake day celebration on the planet.

If you can’t make it to the States, the next best way to spend a ‘fat Tuesday’ may well be to enjoy

some serious stacks at Fatboys Diner. Set in a 1940’s trailer style space in Canning Town, you’ll

find classic US flavours like maple syrup and bacon and BIG portions. Say yes to extra syrup and

assuage your guilt with the fact that this is a day always assigned to the wonderful joy of pigging

out. Happy Pancake day everyone!

You can find the brunch menu for Fatboys here.
