New month, new season and new restaurants to try!
New month, new season and new restaurants to try! This October, as the autumn settles in, replace your park BBQs and lunchtime picnics with delicious food and drink at any one of our top suggestions this month.
Yolk
There's nothing we like more than a pop-up restaurant so beloved it earns a permanent spot on the London food scene. That is exactly what has happened with Yolk, a café which specializes in banging breakfasts and delicious lunchtime sandwiches. After a residency at Broadgate, Yolk is now opening its own spot on New Street Square, right in the heart of the legal district. Hungry city workers can pick up one their renowned egg pots for breakfast: perfect poached Burford Brown eggs with creamy orange yolks, served with a toppings such as pulled ham hack and brown butter hollandaise. For lunch, Yolk will offer hearty sandwiches stuffed with fillings such as juicy steak bavette or umami chicken. Loved by Londoners and critics alike, this is the hot spot for quick eats this autumn.

Fat Phil’s
As the nights draw in, gone is the desire for fresh salads or light suppers - we crave hearty, comforting dishes that warm our bellies and our souls. Cue the arrival of Fat Phil’s, a relaxed kitchen space serving up uncomplicated food cooked to perfection and served at reasonable prices. With an open, minimally furnished room, the focus here is on the kitchen space where you can see, hear and smell the works from the chef. Head chef Phil has tons of experience behind him after training under Michel Roux, Raymond Blanc and Marco Pierre White - he knows his stuff. And with dishes such as grilled goat chop and rock fish soup on the menu, we are sure his culinary expertise will shine through at his first solo venture. If you need some warming up this October, grab a friend, tuck into a buttermilk chicken burger and feel the magic of comfort food at Fat Phil’s.

Chipnation
As the name suggests, this new addition to Soho’s food scene is all about the most glorious form of potatoes: chips. However, Chipnation serves so much more than just your regular fries. The chips are freshly made from Dutch clay soil potatoes, double fried for a soft, fluffy interior and a golden, crispy outside, and served with a variety of amazing toppings perfect for a hungover Friday lunch. You can create your own combination by selecting your choice of chips (sweet potatoes are an option), seasoning, sauce (mango chutney, Thai sweet chilli and more) and finally top off with vegan bacon bits, onions, cheese or jalapenos. If you're feeling overwhelmed by choice, you can grab their halloumi special for guaranteed deliciousness; crispy halloumi fries served with sumac spice, Zatar mint sauce, balsamic glaze, fresh mint and pomegranate.

Pergola Olympia
The leaves are falling and coats are coming out the back of the wardrobe, but that doesn't mean rooftop sundowners have to be a thing of the past! Pergola, masters of the rooftop bar, have opened a new spot in Olympia which offers stunning views of the London landscape, retaining those rooftop vibes, while keeping you toasty during the wintry months with floor to ceiling glass walls. With street food stalwarts on site such as Patty & Bun and Passo and Claw, and a cocktail bar, we're predicting this will be the hottest spot for evening drinks this autumn.

Café Beam Highbury
After its Crouch End parent café won Time Out’s best neighbourhood café prize, we knew that Beam’s second venture would be an exciting addition to Highbury’s high street. Beam Highbury will offer the tasty and creative café fare the Crouch End spot is known for, like goats cheese and beetroot Benedict and vanilla-salted caramel French toast, but will also add an evening menu to its repertoire. The new evening menu is inspired by flavours from Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean, and will have dishes such as charred cauliflower with pomegranate and tahini, slow cooked spiced lamb and skewered saffron chicken thighs on offer.
