Exciting new musical The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, an adaptation from acclaimed romantic-fantasy novel, will have a second workshop in May 2025 before a full stage production in 2026. This timeless tale of a young widowed mother and the ghost of a sea captain explores love, liberation from grief and loneliness.
Captain Gregg will be brought to life by Obioma Ugoala who originated Kristoff in Theatre Royal Drury Lane’s Frozen as well as originating George Washington in Hamilton. Alongside him as Mrs. Muir will be Olivier nominated Laura Pitt-Pulford known for her performances in Standing at the Sky’s Edge and The Light Princess at the National Theatre as well in shows on the West End and around the country. Olivier-award nominated Preeya Kalidas (Bombay Dreams, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) plays Martha and Olivier award nominated Sharif Afifi (The Band’s Visit, Hadestown) plays Miles. The cast also includes Julie Armstrong who will play Eva, alongside Patrick Clancy as Mr. Coombe. Connor Ewing will take on the role of Cyril Muir with Rowan Macpherson as Anna Muir.
Carmel Dean (Renascence, West End Clueless) has written the music and lyrics with direction from Kenneth Hoyt.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is a timeless ghost-infused romance between newly widowed Lucy Muir and the ghost of Daniel Gregg, a sea captain. Through this uncommon companionship, Mrs. Muir learns to find liberation from her grief and loneliness, showcasing the boundless nature of true love, and its ability to transcend this life and beyond.
The show is adapted from the original novel of The Ghost and Mrs Muir that was written by Josephine Leslie in 1945. She wrote under the pseudonym R.A Dick, taking the initials from her sea captain father Robert Abercromby. The story was an immediate sensation and is widely considered to be one of the most classic love stories of all time.
