Launch event of You Are Loved's LGBTQ+ directory for community and support.
You Are Loved (YAL),the new mental health non-profit organisation (CIC) dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community, launches its Ask Bobby community support directory at London’s Betty & Joan’s club in South London, on Thursday 19th June. In addition, the evening includes a special tribute to professional dancer and mental health advocate Robin Windsor, who passed away in 2024, with tributes from colleagues and friends.
The LGBTQ+ Community and Support Directory is being created by You Are Loved as an all-inclusive and all-encompassing resource that recognises the central role community, connection, and belonging plays in improving mental health and wellbeing. There are countless amazing LGBTQ+ organisations and initiatives across the UK, but often queer people looking for community or support don’t know how or where to find them. The directory aims to address that and is unique because of its inclusion of both community and support, including established mental health charities but also providing a space for smaller grassroots community initiatives and more informal social groups.
The name of the directory, Ask Bobby, honours professional dancer Robin Windsor, best known for his appearances on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, who died suddenly in 2024 after years of navigating personal mental health struggles. He was also a cherished advocate for love, kindness and mental health with several charities. Among his friends and loved ones, he was affectionately known as ‘Bobby’. Honouring Robin’s legacy as part of this event helps to reinforce the reasons why this directory has been set up.
The directory is free and accessible for anyone to use. A search function will allow users to filter the directory based on several focus criteria, including activities, themes, sexual orientation, gender identity, and age group.
