She grew up in poverty but fuelled by ambition and passion she became the most famous woman in Argentina. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s fiery musical tells the extraordinary story of Eva Perón, who moved to Buenos Aires as a teenager, pursued a career as an actress (while dating a series of influential men), and married political leader Colonel Juan Péron.
The Pérons ruled Argentina, as President and First Lady, during the 1940s. Theirs was a controversial regime: purportedly championing downtrodden workers, with Eva (known as “Evita”) adored as a saintly figure who understood their plight. She became a symbol of hope to many Argentines, her star shone brightly as she captured the nation’s heart and yet divided its soul. Evita tells the heartbreaking story of a visionary artist whose voice reshaped an era, set against a vibrant backdrop of cultural revolution and personal turmoil. When Eva died in 1952, aged just 33, the whole nation mourned.
The Evita theatre show brilliantly tackles this contentious yet fascinating 20st-century icon, depicting her charisma, her longing to be accepted, and her ruthless ambition. It’s also a timely exploration of the intersection between politics, power and show business. That’s particularly apparent in Jamie Lloyd’s blistering rock-star revival, first seen at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2019. Now Lloyd brings a new version of the musical to the stage in a major Evita West End revival at the London Palladium.
With a powerful score blending soulful ballads, electrifying anthems, and rhythmic cultural beats. Featuring ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’, ‘Oh What A Circus’, ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’, and ‘You Must Love Me’, the musical paints a vivid portrait of a woman determined to forge her path while staying true to her roots, illuminating her struggles with love, identity, and the price of fame.
Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler will star in the new revival of EVITA at The London Palladium, marking her UK stage debut. James Olivas will play Juan Perón. Diego Andres Rodriguez will play Che, joined by Aaron Lee Lambert as Agustín Magaldi and Bella Brown as The Mistress / Alternate Eva.
EVITA arrives at The London Palladium for 12 weeks only from 14 June 2025.
