In 2022 leading West End producer and theatre owner, Nica Burns, announced the opening of @sohoplace, the first new-build West End theatre in 50 years. The culmination of a 12-year project, the theatre is operated by Nimax Theatres, with state-of-the-art facilities.

The theatre is adjacent to the site of the old Astoria theatre which was demolished to build Crossrail. The theatre @sohoplace is at the heart of property giant Derwent London’s visionary £300 million regeneration of a neglected corner of Soho. Totalling 285,000 square feet it is a mixed development with the theatre at its heart, offices and retail and a fantastic new piazza.

Soho Place was designed by architect Simon Allford and Haworth Tompkins, with special attention paid to the curved auditorium, known as “the hug”. No seat is more than six rows from the stage, and seats can be moved into many different configurations such as in-the-round or thrust staging. It also boasts fantastic sightlines and vibration-free acoustics throughout - no mean feat for a venue sitting on top of three major tube lines. The interior is inspired by the open-air Greek Theatre of Epidaurus; audiences can look up and admire sparkling lights shaped into constellations as they walk through the building. There is also a fantastic on-site public restaurant and bar, making Soho Place Theatre the one-stop leisure destination.

Seating

Soho Place Theatre has three levels - Stalls, First Balcony and Second Balcony - and the layout can be adapted for different productions. The best seats are in the front row of the First Balcony, which offers a great angle for viewing the stage, and the middle rows of the Stalls. Choose seats in the Second Balcony for the best value tickets at Soho Place. Although furthest away from the stage, there are no support pillars to obstruct the view.

Facilities

There are bars on every level of the theatre, serving drinks and snacks. A ground floor public restaurant and bar, Stars, is open throughout the day for pre- and post-show dining. The menu features contemporary international dishes with British produce; cocktails; craft beers; and wine.

There is a free cloakroom on the ground floor;  lift access to all floors, and toilets on the ground, second and third floors (with an additional accessible toilet on the first floor). @sohoplace is fully air-conditioned.

Access

The theatre is fitted with a Senheisser FM system with 20 headsets and 10 body back and neck loops available. Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome. Many shows offer access performances; audio described, captioned, relaxed/autism friendly and BSL signed performances. See website for further advice and assistance.
