TINA - The Tina Turner Musical

If there is one jukebox musical that you should see it really ought to be Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. It's got the songs, it's got the moves and it's got the hair! But on a more serious note as we delve into the life of one of the world's best-selling recording artists, we witness her turbulent and abusive marriage and the various setbacks she's had to endure on her way to stardom.

The whole show is an emotional rollercoaster, sharing the stars’ humbling life experiences through almost three hours of exceptional music and storytelling. It is without doubt one of the best musicals in London right now and it's all set to the amazing, pulse-pounding soundtrack of her iconic hits, including The BestWhat’s Love Got To Do With It?Private Dancer and River Deep, Mountain High.

Tina tells the story of how young Anna Mae, abandoned by her mother, Zelma and is brought up by her maternal grandmother GG. As Anna Mae gets older, GG realises it is time for her to leave Nutbush and head for the lights of St Louis to be reunited with her mother and sister Alline. There, at Club Manhattan and she met a Ike Turner who signs her up to his band, changes her name to Tina Turner and the rest, as they say, is history.

Broadway actress Adrienne Warren leads the cast as Turner, giving an astonishing, high energy performance, not just mimicking Tina but embodying her whole spirit. Her performance is astonishing, not only does she have the voice but wow does she have the moves, imitating Turner's distinctive dance moves to perfection. As Tina, Anderson is the life and soul of the show, in what must be one of the West End’s most demanding roles. Supported by an incredibly talented ensemble, the high impact song and dance numbers are a visual spectacle.

The whole show has a rock musical vibe with many scenes beginning on stage or at a recording session, with powerful renditions of "River Deep. Mountain High" and the classic “The Best”.  It's everything you could possibly want in a Tina Turner musical so well  executed whilst packing in a few surprises along the way. It really is simply the best.
