Lala Books is an independent bookshop in the heart of Camberwell, south London and although tiny – it is stuffed with a mix of contemporary literary fiction, classics, philosophy, and books on sex, feminism, art, gardening and nature, and a stellar children’s section. Lala was founded by Danielle Moylan and is the second act of Grove Lane Deli, the community-focused, it-shouldn’t-have-worked-but-somehow-it-did coffee shop which opened in 2021. They outgrew the space but couldn’t imagine being anywhere else and they still serve coffee. Owner Danielle envisioned “a bookshop where people could hang out. We’d have a lot of events, and it would be a place for people to gather with friends – spend some time.” And this is just what they have done and while the space might be small, the ambition definately isn't. 

The shop hosts regular literary events, which always sell out. Past events include Cecilia Knapp in conversation with Monica Heisey, Eliza Clark in conversation with Nicola Dinan and one of the great foreign correspondents of our time Jon Lee Anderson in conversation with Isobel Yeung. Along with monthly poetry nights and special events – there is a lot going on at this little book shop. They have also just reopened ‘Bar Lala’ - affordable drinks 5-9pm Friday and Saturday all through summer. 

Lala is also available for private hire. They have a small but beautiful space which can host a range of seated or standing receptions, book or product launches, workshops and film and photography shoots.
