Glowing tree forms, a gigantic light-filled globe and a wave of singing lights, Salisbury Cathedral and its Close will be transformed this Advent and Christmas, with light installations on the lawns and inside the Cathedral itself. The illuminated artworks collectively titled ‘From Darkness to Light’ are available to view from now until the end of January. Best viewed after dusk, the optimum time to see all of the illuminations is between 4pm and 5pm Monday – Saturday (two late-night openings are scheduled on 6 and 13 December).

Light Wave by Squidsoup is an immersive walk-through experience with 500 light and audio spheres suspended in a 20-metre wave formation which softly glow and emit singing voices, creating a dreamlike experience on the West walk.

In the Cloisters, Lumen by David Ogle, is an installation of 5 tree-like structures which form a luminous canopy of interlocking neon branches up to 3-metres high, bathing the medieval stone arches with a vibrant glow.

Inside the Cathedral you will find The Light by Richard McLester, a 4-metre illuminated globe suspended in the Spire Crossing which flows from one colour to another for Advent. For Christmas, a shooting star will whirl and spin on the sphere until finally focusing on the ‘Star of Bethlehem’.

Special Twilight Tower Tours will run daily and take visitors up onto the balconies below the base of Britain’s tallest spire to view the city lights and winter illuminations from above until to 22 December. Enter to win two tickets to a Twilight Tower Tour!
