It is the UK’s Number One theme park and has an awesome choice of world first rollercoasters that cannot be experienced anywhere else on the planet! There's also 20 amazing attractions aimed at young children and families, with Alton Towers being the only place in the UK where you can meet some of CBeebies best loved characters. How to get to Alton Towers Resort

Alton Towers Resort is easily accessible by car with on-site parking available, and by public transport via nearby train stations and connecting local bus services.

  • By Car - For sat nav use postcode ST10 4DB, Alton Towers Resort is located between the M1 and the M6 and is well signposted from both motorways. 
  • By Train - There are three train stations near Alton Towers: Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter and Derby. Guests arriving at Stafford or Uttoxeter railway station, will need to contact a local taxi service for the rest of the journey to the resort. 
  • By Bus - D&G Bus operate the X41 runs between Stafford - Uttoxeter - Alton Towers Resort, and the 32X operates between Hanley - Cheadle - Alton Towers Resort.
  • Resort Monorail - Takes visitors from the car park to the Theme Park entrance. 

Parking

  • Standard Parking is charged at £12 for Theme Park Guests. Gold, Platinum and Premium Merlin Passholders are entitled to free Standard Car Parking. Standard Parking is between 15-25 minutes walk to the Theme Park Entrance.
  • Express Parking is charged at £20 for Theme Park Guests (MUST be booked in advance online.) Gold, Platinum and Premium Merlin Passholders are able to pre-book Express Parking for £10. Express Parking is a 1-3 minute walk away from the Theme Park Entrance.
  • Blue Badge Parking is charged at the Standard Parking price of £12

  • Two Day Ticket from £46 - Annual Pass Off-Peak £99
  • Fastrack (queue-skip): Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum tiers, start at £35 for Bronze.

Best time to visit Alton Towers

Weekdays in term time are best. Aim for Tue – Thu outside school holidays. Check the Events page and opening-times calendar to avoid peak times. During Scarefest and Fireworks the park stays open late and crowds spike, great atmosphere, but arrive early and plan.

Opening Times

Alton Towers is open from mid March and closes for winter at the start of November. The park opens at 10am (but gates open at 9am). Closing times range from 4pm right up to 9pm during certain events. 

Where to Eat

One thing is for sure, you will not go hungry at Alton Towers, there are so many great places to eat including;

Rollercoaster Restaurant (table drops via mini-track; book dinner—walk-ups for lunch only), Woodcutter’s Bar & Grill, Just Chicken, Burger Kitchen, plus kiosks and hotel restaurants (The Secret Garden, Flambo’s Jambo, The Crooked Spoon, etc.). Or Bring a picnic if you prefer—benches and lawns are available (no alcohol/glass or barbecues).

Events

Each year Alton Towers Resort holds a number of special events including:

  • Scarefest - enjoy days and nights of spooks and frights with rides in the dark until 9pm. Little spooks can also enjoy Trick O’ Treat Town with HARIBO & MAOAM, the return of Amigos in the Afterlife, plus family favourites like Runaway Mine Train and Wicker Man.
  • Fireworks - Prepare for an unforgettable evening as the UK's most immersive firework display takes to the skies with an exhilarating show. Hosted on the closest weekend in November, the Bonfire Night fireworks events span three whole days!
  • Christmas - Get set and enjoy a whole host of selected family rides and attractions including the UK’s only CBeebies Land! 
  • Magical Days Out - Join in the festive fun with Magical Days Out at Alton Towers Resort! Visit Mutiny Bay, the home of budding buccaneers, and enjoy the returning festive LIVE Show – The Sprout that Saved Christmas!
