400 years of London’s architecture through the eyes of artists at Guildhall Art Gallery

London’s cityscape has inspired visiting and resident artists for over four centuries. From vast panoramas to everyday views, this surprising and “fascinating” (Financial Times) exhibition depicts the capital from a range of vantage points, reflecting the rich diversity of its buildings.

With 80 works by over 60 artists, the exhibition draws from the City of London Corporation’s extensive collection of London paintings. It also features works by major and emerging artists, including Canaletto, Lucian Freud, Rachel Whiteread, Frank Auerbach and Catherine Yass, among others.

Look out for the Architecture of London Late, taking place on 27 September, where you can catch pop-up talks by the exhibition’s Curator, build your own city from Lego or take part in some mindful colouring on a giant map of Tudor London – all while sipping drinks by Anthologist and grooving to a live DJ. The Late event is part of Emerge: London’s Lates Festival – a city-wide kaleidoscope of events taking over cultural venues across London on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September.
