BBC Radio 4 and Talawa Theatre Company come together to showcase rising talents!

BBC Radio 4 and the UK's leading Black British theatre company, Talawa Theatre Company, are coming together this year to showcase original audio dramas by three talented, young writers; Sian Davila, Charles Entsie, and Roberta Livingston. From the 7th of May, these works will be brought to life by brilliant casts including the likes of Sharon D Clarke (Caroline, or Change, West End), Don Gilet (Eastenders BBC), Jocelyn Jee Esien (Turn Up Charlie, Netflix), Lydia West (It’s a Sin, Channel 4), Don Warrington (Death in Paradise, BBC) and many more!

Between them, Davila, Entsie and Livingston have presented work at institutions including The National, Kings Head, and The Gate Theatre, with each now adding a Radio 4 drama debut to their outstanding credits. Talawa Stories will be some of the first Radio 4 titles to broadcast as part of a new approach to bring new half-hour audio dramas to both on-air and on-demand audiences. Running With Lions, a story with compassion, intelligence and atmosphere, written by Sian Davila, will air on Friday 7th May, 2.15 pm-2.45 pm. NSA, written by Charles Entsie, will air on Friday 14th May, 2.15 pm-2.45 pm, and Precious Little Thing, a humorous and heartfelt comedy written by Roberta Livingston, will air on Friday 21st May 2.15 pm-2.45 pm.

Michael Buffong, Artistic Director of Talawa Theatre Company adds, “In its 35 years, Talawa Theatre Company has consistently worked with writers to develop new stories. With these three stories, Talawa’s commitment to broadening and enriching the canon of British playwriting takes us in new directions. We are the UK’s outstanding Black theatre company for a reason, the quality of our artists’ work. And to be able to share that on Radio 4 is a delight.”
