Cinema Doors Re-open in May!

It’s been a long, long silent year for cinemas across the UK. But the dust covers are coming off the seats, the popcorn maker’s being washed down and there’s technical checks galore in preparation for their re-opening from 17th May.  We are excited!   
According to the Film Distributors' Association, this is what’s in store for the next few months, May to July. We’ll bring you more box office release information once we’ve binged on this lot. 

17th May 2021 – Nomadland
Frances McDormand is in line for her third Oscar with her performance in this powerfully understated drama. She plays Fern, a recently bereaved ex-school teacher who adapts to the nomadic style of living amidst the American interior. Director Chloe Zhao mixes fact and fiction, interweaving Fern's narrative around anecdotal reminiscences from real-life nomads. The result is unique and utterly spellbinding.

21st May 2021 – Peter Rabbit 2
James Corden's mischievous rabbit is back for another adventure in this Beatrix Potter-inspired sequel. This time, Peter gets a taste of the high life when he leaves the country for the big city, prompting his friends to come to the rescue and restore him to the McGregor farm. 

28th May 2021 – Cruella
Academy Award (R) winner Emma Stone ("La La Land") stars in Disney's "Cruella," an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious - and notoriously fashionable - villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. 

28th May 2021 – The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It
Prepare for more bumps in the night as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) battle another onslaught of evil entities. The latest instalment in the Conjuring Universe involves, in the words of the official synopsis, "the fight for the soul of a young boy".  

4th June 2021 – A Quiet Place: Part II
Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path. 

11th June 2021 – The Father
Anthony Hopkins delivers a towering, Oscar-worthy performance in this anguished study of dementia and ageing. Director Florian Zeller adapts his own stage play, showing how an elderly man starts to lose his grasp on reality within the confines of his flat. Olivia Colman matches Hopkins scene-for-scene as the anguished daughter. 

25th June 2021 – In The Heights
Warner Bros brings this smashit Broadway musical to the silver screen, in which a bodega owner has mixed feelings about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother's fortune. Starring Anthony Ramos and Bojack Horseman's Stephanie Beatriz. 

9th July 2021 – Black Widow
Upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Scarlett Johansson's former Soviet assassin delves into her past, including her conflict with mysterious villain Taskmaster, and the dreaded 'Red Room'. Also starts Florence Pugh David Harbour and Rachel Weisz. 

9th July 2021 – Fast & Furious 9
After the events of The Fate of the Furious (2017), Dominic Toretto and his family must face Dominic's younger brother Jakob, a deadly assassin, who is working with their old enemy Cipher, and who holds a personal vendetta against Dominic.  Directed by Justin Lin and a a stellar cast to match it including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron. 

30th July 2021 – Jungle Cruise
Walt Disney family-friendly adventure film starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson. Set during the early 20th century, a riverboat captain named Frank takes a scientist and her brother on a mission into a jungle to find the Tree of Life which is believed to possess healing powers. All the while, the trio must fight against dangerous wild animals and a competing German expedition.
