The annual English Wine Week kicks off on the 19th June and runs through until the 27th and will be celebrating all things viticulture. As England builds credibility with its now numerous vineyards (we have more than 500 vineyards, half of which are open to visitors) we’ve put together a selection of wine experiences and gifts to celebrate English Wine Week in the South West!

1. Book one of Aldwick Estate’s Wine Tours – link here

Aldwick’s red grapes swelling in the sun. Link here.

First up is Aldwick Estate, an award-winning winemaker in North Somerset’s luscious Blagden. Aldwick Estate hosts weddings, corporate days out and of course produces exceptional wine alongside regular wine-tours. The 90-minute tours start at an affordable £17.50 in which you will tour the beautiful site, growing vines and then sample a selection of their bottles; vintage and otherwise.

2. Read ‘Wine Simple’ Book by Aldo Sohn – link here

Wine. Link here.

The apt subtitle for Aldo Sohm’s Wine Simple says it all ‘A Very Approachable Guide from Otherwise Serious Sommelier’. Given the heaviness of wine expertise and chat, approachability is a great thing. Sommelier, author and teacher, Sohm is deeply relatable on his subject and will help you navigate the multivariate factors at play when discussing, buying and enjoying wine. You’ll be a dab hand at explaining your oenophilia (the practice of enjoying wine) in no time!

Organised in partnership with Bristol’s unique events specialist company Yuup, the evening’s tasting flight will include an assembly of sustainable and minimal intervention wines along with a fantastic local cheese board (Cheddar Gorge anyone?). Introduction to Wine Course. Link here.

We all know that wine culture and conversation can be a daunting thing. Wine is shrouded in mystery with complex geographical terms like terroir or comprehensive sommelier wine lists that seem impregnable to novices. If you can relate to this, then the action and knowledge packed Introduction to Wine one-day course by the Bristol Wine School could be a great fit for you. Dates also available in Bath.
