Ripples of Hope Festival - Day 3
HOME Manchester
17 - 19 September

The Ripples of Hope Festival - a new Festival that celebrates the power of people to make human rights a reality - invites you to three days of workshops, performances and debates.

We dedicate Day 3 of The Ripples of Hope Festival to a theme that has a massive impact on human vulnerability and inequity: ENVIRONMENT & THE PLANET.

Every aspect of our environment – its quality, its design, its stability and survival – determines our ability to make human rights a reality. We’ll discuss food politics, the design of cities, the future of sustainable fashion, ethical economic growth, young climate activists, indigenous knowledge and practical actions all of us can take.

You’ll hear from speakers including 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Satyarthi; former President of Ireland Mary Robinson; Chair of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights UK and entrepreneur Paul Lindley OBE; human rights lawyer Philippe Sands QC; Director for the Centre of Applied Human Rights at the University of York Paul Gready; founder of the Eden Project Tim Smit and UK Prime Minister, 2007 - 2010, Gordon Brown.

The evening will see our third Poetic Declaration 21-30, hosted by UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage CBE, that unveils the ground-breaking new work of 10 poets in response to Articles 21-30 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The line up includes Carol Ann Duffy, Sean Borodale, Kimberley Campanello, Keisha Thompson, Mike Garry, Maura Dooley, Joelle Taylor, Jay Bernard and Zaffar Kunial.
