Herbie Hancock's iconic band is celebrating their 50th anniversary at Camden's Jazz Cafe for a special night of old grooves.

Their name is known by any modern producer, having been sampled beyond reason for the last half-century. Now, they are coming to North London to celebrate the decades and decades of their success, selling millions of records and helping to elevate the name of Herbie Hancock in the process.

The iconic album Head Hunters, which bare the band’s name, was a staple in jazz fusion that radically altered the landscape of what audiences expect from funk and jazz. Incorporating samples from a pygmy tribe in Central Africa was integral to their revamped version of 'Watermelon Man', paving the way for further popular exploration into world music.

It's a mighty introduction for the band, who in their years have achieved so much, and it's an even mightier pleasure to have them play at Camden's iconic and atmospheric Jazz Cafe, known for holding legacy acts. A great highlight earlier this year was The Fatback Band, another staple of the 70s, who played to a mixed audience of elders and youngers moved by their sound.

Whilst almost any Jazz Cafe listing comes with a strong recommendation from us, this evening with the Headhunters comes with a gold star and two thumbs up from our end. Unmissable for any fans of funk, jazz, or the world in-between. They also have another show on the Friday.

Note: Herbie Hancock is not billed to perform at this event
