Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//)

15 November 2019 to 24 November 2019Visit websiteBook tickets

Featuring 60+ events and over 50 premieres, hcmf// encompasses new, experimental and electronic music, as well as visual art, sound art and improvisation - plus a whole day of free music!

In building the programme around the practice of Swedish Composer in Residence Hanna Hartman, hcmf// 2019 features subtle, low-key innovations from many of modern music’s most uncompromising artists; from Ann Cleare and Frank Denyer through to Jenny Hval, Christine Sun Kim, Ellen Arkbro and Kelly Jayne Jones.

Celebrating a multiplicity of voices, the festival’s 20+ World Premieres include works by Jürg Frey, Marcus Granberg, Georg Friedrich Haas, and Naomi Pinnock, along with a host of UK Premieres. Other notable performances will include an ice cello which melts as it plays, and a showcase for the ondes Martenot, one of the oldest electronic instruments in existence.

Improvisations woven throughout the programme include a concert from saxophonist Evan Parker marking his 75th birthday, a rare appearance on piano from legendary composer Heiner Goebbels, a UK Premiere from pianist Irmin Schmidt and Luigi Archetti’s monumental, 7-hour noise marathon, NULL.
