Shakespeare’s Globe is opening soon!

Step 2 of the Government’s roadmap has quickly approached which means that Shakespeare’s Globe has finally been able to open its doors once again. The Globe’s guided tour of the theatre returned on the 13th of April which has meant that they can welcome back schools with tours and workshops. Live theatre will also be returning to Shakespeare’s Globe very soon with socially distanced performances from the 19th May ’21. A few highlights this Summer will include ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream (19 May - 30 October), followed by ‘As You Like it(8 June - 29 August), and ‘The Tempest’ from the (11 June - 29 August). The Shakespeare’s Globe site comprises: The Globe Theatre (1997): a unique full-scale replica of Shakespeare’s original 1599 Elizabethan open-air theatre; Education and Rehearsal Centre (2010); Indoor candle-lit Jacobean Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (2014); Library, archive, lecture theatre and other public spaces. The Globe also has its on-site bar and restaurant, ‘Swan at the Globe’ which is now open for outdoor dining. 

With Covid-safety measures in place, you can visit Shakespeare’s Globe with confidence. All of the tours are taking place outside and must be pre-booked online for timeslots to allow for social distancing. There will also be hand sanitising stations and regular deep cleans. However, you can also get involved and witness the amazing things that Shakespeare’s Globe has to offer from your own home with its plethora of online activities available. These include streamed performances of ‘Anti-Racist Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ (20 May), Romeo and Juliet (10 July – 7 August) and Twelfth Night (4 September – 23 October), plus many more.
