Sudley House is open!

Situated in the leafy Liverpool suburbs is Sudley House, the former home of Victorian shipping merchant George Holt and his daughter Emma.  One of Liverpool’s better kept secrets this beautiful home is filled with period furniture and extraordinary paintings by great artists such as Turner, Reynolds, Gainsborough, Millais, Burne-Jones and Holman Hunt.

Perfect to escape from daily life you can explore the period rooms on the ground floor of the house and take inspiration from the historic interiors and art collection.

A new exhibition for winter 2020 ‘Home and Away’ displays paintings of a long-lost Liverpool on loan from the Walker Art Gallery alongside George Holt’s own paintings of faraway places. Together these paintings by artists such as John Atkinson Grimshaw, Thomas Creswick, Charles Trevor Prescott and Eduardo de Martino revealing the city in which the Holt family’s would have done business and spent their leisure time as well as their interest in travel, foreign countries and local customs.
