For ten days each October, the streets, parks, museums, galleries, laboratories, and public and private buildings of this vibrant cultural quarter play host up to 130 events which attract a significant audience from across London and beyond. This year the festival has been inspired by the theme of breathe.

There will be an exciting mix of contemporary arts, music, performance, theatre, science displays, talks, walks and community events. Many are presented by emerging artists, writers and academics, others by established professionals, and some by the local community.  Support has been received for emerging talent by Arts Council England, and this year the festival offers the start of what will be an ongoing focus on Writers of Colour, which has developed from conversations with young residents of Bloomsbury.

Bloomsbury is known internationally for its garden squares and stately buildings, its universities and its literary connections. But it is also an inner-city area bordered by one of the city’s most polluted roads. There are many local initiatives to improve the environment and the opening Store Street event celebrates Camden Council’s West End Project and the opening of Alfred Place Gardens.

Bloomsbury Festival captures the diversity of bright minds connected to these few streets of London, from the past to the present day”
