Spacious, nuanced and skilfully crafted... a quiet, shimmering beauty Evening Standard

It’s almost five years since The Breath released their debut album ‘Carry Your Kin’, and to celebrate, vocalist and flautist Ríoghnach Connolly (awarded folk Singer of the Year in 2019) with guitarist Stuart McCallum return to one of Greater Manchester’s most eclectic venues, Mash Guru (where they played ‘in the early days’) for a special concert, streamed on Dice Music.  The pair perform a special career-spanning set that includes some much-missed songs and a never performed bonus track from that very first album.  Following the performance, Nick Hobbs (Charmwork Music, writer, performer) hosts a live Q&A, chatting with Stuart and Rioghnach about their music, how they met and much more, while viewers can pose their own questions.

On 'Carry Your Kin’, The Breath delved deeply into the spaces between rock and folk, where mesmerising guitar riffs and expansive folk arrangements created a swirling sound framing Ríoghnach’s impassioned and intensely charged voice. Today, the singer-songwriter duo are renowned for their stripped bare performances that find a depth and beauty in their heartfelt songs allowing their extraordinary connection to shine through.
