The Peterloo 2019 Opening Weekend in Manchester

1 June 2019 to 31 August 2019Visit website

As part of a nationwide effort to commemorate The Peterloo Massacre, a watershed moment in Britain’s long struggle for universal suffrage, Manchester Histories launches a major summer-long programme of over 150 exhibitions, performances, events, screenings, workshops and talks across the city that respond to the protest itself, its legacy, and the future of democracy.

On the opening weekend of Peterloo 2019, Manchester Central Library and Manchester Art Gallery throw open their doors for a weekend of events. On Saturday 8 June at 2pm, Historian and Writer Michael Wood will be joined by professional genealogist Michala Hulme for The Peterloo Photograph. This will be followed by a special Peterloo inspired performance by Commoners Choir on Sunday 9 June at 2pm at Manchester Art Gallery.

Keen to brush up on your Peterloo knowledge? Head over to People’s History Museum where Disrupt! Peterloo and Protest tells the story of the landmark event and highlights its ongoing relevance to society. Plus there's talks, walks, workshops, exhibitions and more happening until August.
