Shortlist Readings

Join us for a night of exclusive readings from the Portico Prize 2022 shortlisted books, plus the chance to put your live questions to the authors, on the eve of the winner announcement.

The Portico Prize is awarded biennially to a new work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry that best evokes ‘the spirit of the North of England’.

Signed copies of the shortlist are available to buy with your ticket.

The Portico Prize 2022 shortlist is:

•            The Family Tree by Sairish Hussain (HQ, Harper Collins)

•            Sea State by Tabitha Lasley (4th Estate)

•            Mayflies by Andrew O’Hagan (Faber)
 

The Portico Prize 2022 is judged by the broadcaster Melanie Sykes, author and journalist Gary Younge, poet Momtaza Mehri, and arts editor at The Daily Telegraph Anita Singh.

The highly anticipated winner of the Portico Prize 2022 is revealed! Join us for a very special free event in celebration of the best of contemporary Northern literature, with readings by special guests from each of the shortlisted books. Hear the judges discuss this outstanding selection and announce the winner, who will receive £10,000.

The Portico Library is a registered charity. Any donation you choose to make with your ticket will help us to support the future of Northern writing and ensure the Portico Prize can reopen for submissions in 2023.
